Plein Air Painting Class

Plein air painting (Outdoor painting) class will meet on location. Variety of inspiring locations will be explored around Greenville, SC. (We will try to be within 30 min of Greenville). Students will pick a subject and record their feelings and observations through form and color. Aspects of composition, color mixing, perspective and scale will be discussed. Instructor demonstrations and individual critiques are standard. Students may choose their own materials such as watercolor, pastels, oils or pencils. All levels are welcomed.

This class will have 8 sessions. Class will meet once a week on Tuesdays. The first class meeting will be on 3rd of September 2024. Meet up locations and times will be announced to the students who registered for class.

Class sessions will be in the afternoons from 5:30 pm.-8pm. 

(Possibility of class meet up days may change if weather will not permit)

Class is limited to 15 students. Book early to reserve a spot.

Cost of class for all 8 sessions is $200 per student.

Supplies List:

Outdoor easel: recommendations: French easel, prolific painter easel, Strada easel.

 

Student/professional oil paints brands: Windsor Newton, Gamblin, Georgian, and  Master's Touch oil paints.

 List of colors needed:

Set of Bristle and Synthetic oil brushes including flats and rounds.

(Recommend Rosemary Brushes brand. Other brushes at hobby lobby or Michaels will work great too.)

Odorless Gamsol. No other solvents are allowed.

Palette, plastic or wood

Palette cups (attachable to the palette) or a glass jar for Gamsol.

Canvas boards or canvas size recommendation 6in x 8in, 8in x 10in, 9in x 12in will work great.

Vine Charcoal

Roll of paper towels or old rags for cleaning brushes.
